Tools
Here is the tool i made it has 4 tabs that hang down and goes into the groves of the wheel nut .
Tools
Here is a side view and the tabs can not hang down any more then 1/4 inch so it does not hang on the lock tabs .
Wheel
This is outside of the wheel where the wheel nut and the lock tab is located .
Wheel
Here is the inside of the wheel where the axle lock is located and holds everything together with the nut and lock tabs .
Lock nut
Here the socket tool takes off the nut and they are pretty tight so you have to lock the axle down to keep it from turning .
Wheel
Here is the nut and the lock tab ring so you can see how it hangs up on the socket and wont let the nut turn loose .
Wheel
You can use a press to press out the axle from the top down through the bottom it just pushes straight through it and out .
Wheel
There is a keeper ring on the top outside of the axle that holds the top seal into the wheel under the lock ring .
Wheel
Just smack the axle with a hammer or something to jar it loose its just there to hold the seal in and comes right off .
Wheel
If you don't have or use a press you can take a big hammer and drive it out from the out side to the inside .
Wheel
Here is what the back of the axle looks like when it comes out some just slide out others are tight and hard to get .
Wheel
Here is the back side our inner seal and under that is the bearing , both sides are exactly the same bearing and seals .
Wheel
Here is the whole axle after its been taken out and what it looks like so you can see how it goes together and goes back.
Wheel
Here all you do is get a bar or something to drive the seal out by hitting the top of the bearing and knocking them out.
Wheel
Here is the way they look when they come out with the seal usually stuck to the bearing and come out in one piece .
Wheel
Here is the seal they are both the same on both sides and as long as they still turn and not all bent up they are still good .
Wheel
Here is the top view showing the inside to where you can see how it looks and drive out the other seal and bearing .
Wheel
Just replace any bad bearings/seals/races and then press/hammer the seals back inside the wheel tight but still turning.
Wheel
Slide the axle back in the wheel , put on the seal ring that hold the seal to the wheel and the lock tabs they only go 1 way.
Wheel
Put the wheel nut back on the axle and it goes tight as you can then loosen just a bit so the wheel turns but still grabs .
Wheel
Here is the whole set of tools we made in action tightening down the wheel nut on the wheel bracket we made from scrap stuff .
Wheel
Its an old i beam that we put straps on the bottom to hold it onto the fork truck so we can stabilize it and hold it in place .
Wheel
I found some square metal tubing that i cut and made a bracket to weld to the i beam and drilled a hole in the sides for the bolt .
Wheel
Here you can see how it holds the wheel by locking it into place so the axle can not turn and holds it up straight to work on it .
Wheel
Here is the completed wheel all put back together and on the bracket we made like this so we can raise it up and down for comfort .
